Learn from Dom Corsi, Manager of Doble's Transformer Consulting Group, as he discusses NERC standard TPL-007-1, and the initial and ongoing assessments generation and transmission asset owners must conduct regarding the potential impact of a “1-in-100-year” benchmark geomagnetic disturbance (GMD) event.
This recorded presentation covers transformer thermal impact assessments, which are required for all applicable high-side, wye grounded greater than 200kV transformers to ensure they can withstand thermal transient effects associated with the benchmark GMD event.
Dom also discusses the transformer design information inputs required to perform the thermal impact assessment and the challenges associated with transformers where design documentation may not be readily available.
